Purple Tuesday is a global social movement and the #1 brand for improving the customer experience for disabled people and their families 365 days a year.
The initiative inspires the leadership and staff of organisations of all sectors and sizes to promote awareness, develop understanding, and implement solutions for better accessibility in their customer environments.

Participating organisations make public commitments (a minimum of one new activity or initiative) each year that improves their accessibility and practice so that disabled customers have a better, more inclusive experience.

The Purple Tuesday movement is highlighted each year by a celebratory day, the first Tuesday of November, also known as Purple Tuesday. In 2021, the celebration in the United Kingdom reached over 19 million; involved over 7,000 social media conversations; and received over 270 pieces of broadcast and print media. Purple Tuesday resonates with businesses and the community.

Why Purple Tuesday

Improving the Disabled Customer Experience

The spending power of disabled people and their household worldwide is currently estimated to be worth $8 trillion, increasing by 14% per annum. Only 10% of businesses have a targeted strategy for this huge market.

There are 1.3 billion disabled people in the world that represent 17% of the population.

75% of disabled people and their families have walked away from a business because of poor accessibility or customer service.

8% of disabled people are wheelchair users, and 80% of disabled people have hidden impairments.

Example Commitments Organisations Make

Here are just some commitment ideas that organisations could make to improve accessibility:

Purple Tuesday Partners Recognition

We are proud to be working in partnership with organisations who want to represent their sector to support us in raising awareness of the value of disabled customers through Purple Tuesday, and to influence improvements to the customer experience for disabled customer and their families 365 days a year.

Going Global

The disability conversation is changing and the movement moving, so this year we are going global for the first time!

Events will be held on Purple Tuesday, 1st November 2022 in the UK, USA, UAE, Southeast Asia and Pakistan.

Disabled Customer Ambassadors are absolutely vital to the future growth and expansion of Purple Tuesday. It is about us working with businesses to improve our experiences. We have a host of ambassadors who are doing a great job at sharing the word about Purple Tuesday in line with their personal, lived experiences of the disabled customer experience. Our ambassadors reflect the widest community of disabled people. We want all disabled people represented.

All Ambassadors

We are committed to being a disability confident organisation with focus on removing barriers and increasing accessibility.
